LSHS student-athletes honored at awards program

Lexington Senior High School honored its 2021 student athletes at the Annual Sports Awards  program on Saturday, June 12th. 

In Varsity Women’s Soccer, Emre Blackwell and Brenda Delgado were named Co - Defensive  Players of the Year. Alexa Mota and Eret Blackwell were named Co - Team MVP. Noemi  Santibanez – Bahena weas named Offensive Player of the Year. Bopha Theang was named Most  Improved. Rossana Najar received the Coaches Award. Eret Blackwell was named to the  Central Carolina Conference Women’s Soccer Team. Fabiola Ramirez, Liliana Gonzalez,  Victoria Flores and Rossana Najar received the LSHS academic awards for maintaining a GPA  of 3.0 and higher. Acacia Coltrane, Noemi Santibanez – Behena, Betsabe Cervantes Espinosa,  Amaya Hurtado, Daniela Mercado Navarro, Bopha Theang, Andrea Martinez – Sandoval, Eret  Blackwell, Emre Blackwell and Jadyiah Peoples all received the North Carolina Scholar Athlete  Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and higher. 

In Women’s Track, Alyssa Rowe Thompson was named Women’s Track Sprinter MVP,  Aquariah McIntosh received the Women’s Runner of the Year Award. Isa Wall received the  Most Improved Award. Alyssa Thompson Rowe finished second in the NCHSAA State Finals  100 meter dash, third in the 200 Meter Dash and third in the 100 Meter Hurdles. Aquariah  Malaysia Smith finished eighth in the 400 meter dash. Malaysia Smith, Ny’Lasia Brown,  Aquariah McIntosh and Isa Wall finished second in the 4 X 400 Meter Relay. NCHSAA Women’s  2A State Champions - Aquariah McIntosh, Malaysia Smith, Ny’Lasia Brown and Alyssa  Thompson Rowe finished first in the 4 X 100 Meter Relay. NCHSAA Women’s 2A State  Champions – Malaysia Smith, Aquariah McIntosh, Ny’Lasia Brown and Isa Wall placed first in  the 4 X 200 Meter Relay. Lexington’s Women’s Track team finished 2nd in the NCHSAA  Regional Finals and 4th overall in the Women’s NCHSAA 2A State Finals. Nylasia Brown,  Ni’Kesia Barnes, Aquariah McIntosh, Emma O’Connell and Alyssa Thompson Rowe all  received the North Carolina Scholar Athlete Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and higher.  

In Men’s Track, Jahamani Wallace was named Men’s Track Sprinter MVP, Djovany Worley  was named Distance MVP. Aidan Guerra received the Most Improved Award. Jamarion Wright  received the Best Shot Award and Xavier Wall received the Best Discus Award. Xavier Wall and  Jamarion Wright both received the LSHS academic award for maintaining a 3.0 GPA and  higher. Noah Gist, Aidan Guerra and Djovany Worley all received the North Carolina Scholar  Athlete Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and higher. Jahamani Wallace finished 6th in the  Men’s 2A Midwest Regional 200 meter dash.  

In Varsity Men’s Tennis, Pablo Cruz received the Team MVP Award. Co- Most Improved  Awards went to Mauro Alfaro Ramos, William Burke and Viktor Lopez Juarez. William Burke,  David Bahena , Keven Bahena and Kevin Luna all received the LSHS academic awards along  with the North Carolina Scholar Athlete Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and higher. 

In Women’s Tennis, Amaya Hurtado received the MVP Award. Bestsabe Cervantes Espinosa, Hannia Luna  and Harley Hedrick all received the Most Improved Awards. Amaya Hurtado was named to the Central  Carolina Conference Women’s Tennis Team. Betsabe Cervantes Espinosa, Rachel Harris, Harley Hedrick,  Kate Hedrick, Amaya Hurtado, Madison Murphy Noemi Santibanez - Bahena, Raquel Cervantes Espinosa,  Bopha Theang and Hailey Wade all received the NCHSAA Scholar Award for having GPA’s above 3.5.  Shevanie Seenanan Cruz, Lydia Lopez and Shevanie Seenanan received the Lexington Academic Award for  having a GPA of 3.0 and higher.  

In Varsity Baseball, Zy’Ques Gordon received the MVP Award. Joseph Burroughs received the  Most Improved Award. All Purpose Award went to Tev’Vohn Knotts and Co Sportsmanship  Awards went to Tiani Enis and Desani Hearst. Oliver Cashatt, Micah Shaw and Caleb Speights  all received the LSHS academic awards for maintaining a GPA of 3.0 and higher. Emre  Blackwell, Eret Blackwell, Brooks Calderone, Tiani Enis and Desani Hearst all received the  North Carolina Scholar Athlete Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and higher.  

In Golf, Micah Owens was named Men’s Golf MVP. Eva Salmeron was named Women’s Golf,  MVP. Micah Owens and Anahi Rivera – Acevedo both received the Most Improved Award.  Emre Blackwell, Eret Blackwell, Eva Salmeron Anahi Rivera – Acevedo and Micah Owens all received the LSHS academic awards along with the North Carolina Scholar Athlete Award for  maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and higher.  

In Cross Country, Men – Djovany Worley received the MVP award. Co – Most Improved Awards went to  Colin O’Connell and William Burke. Djovany Worley and William Burke both received the NCHSAA  Scholar Award for having GPA’s above 3.5 or higher.  

In Cross Country, Women - Raquel Cervantes Espinosa received the MVP award. Co-Most Improved  Awards went to Caroline Pyle and Emma O’Connell. Somatra Chhum, Emma O’Connell, Abigail Cervantes  Espinosa, Caroline Pyle and Raquel Cervantes Espinosa all received the NCHSAA Scholar Award for having  GPA’s above 3.5 or higher.  

In Varsity Men’s Soccer, Guillermo Armenta was named Team Offensive MVP, Jared Martinez was named  Most Valuable Midfielder and Rosalino Aguirren was named Team Defensive MVP. Aidan Guerra received  the Team Most Improved Award. Pablo Cruz received the Team Coaches Award and Marcos Peredes received  the Team First Award. The following players were named to the Central Carolina Conference Men’s Soccer  Team: Djovany Worley, Kevin Velasquez and Jared Martinez. The following Varsity Soccer players received  the Lexington Academic Awards for having a GPA of 3.0 or higher: Jared Martinez, Abner Martinez,  Guillermo Armenta, Pablo Cruz, JanCarlos Mondragon, Jiar Cardenas and Andrew Williams. The following  Varsity Men’s Soccer Players all received the NCHSAA Scholar Athlete Award – Jose Sanchez, David  Behana, Aiden Guerra and Djovanyi Worley for having a GPA of 3.5 or higher.  

In JV Volleyball, Mary Thornhill was named Team MVP. Victoria Flores was named Team Most Improved.  Victoria Flores received the Lexington Academic Award for having a GPA above 3.0. Abbie Callicutt,  Savannah Hathaway, Juliana Momaril, Mary Thornhill and Sarah Thornhill all received the NCHSAA Scholar  Athlete Award for having a GPA of 3.5 or higher. 

In Varsity Volleyball, MVP Award went to Zakiah Walker. Marilyn Adams was named Most Improved.  Zakiah Walker was named to the CCC Volleyball Team The following Volleyball player received the  NCHSAA Scholar Athlete Award – Emre Blackwell, Eret Blackwell, Aquariah McIntosh, Bopha Theang and  Zakiah Walker for having a GPA of 3.5 or higher.  

In Varsity Cheerleaders, Kyeesha Marshall and Kiara Lewis were named CO-Most Valuable  Cheerleaders. Joceylyn Romero, Kyra Martin and Na’Kya Holmes all received the Most  Improved Award. Amy Kom and Makayla Easterling both received the Lexington Academic  Award for having a GPA above 3.0. Kiara Lewis, Jacqueline Lopez, Kyeesha Marshall, Kyrah  Martin, Jocelyn Romero and Nyzani Sean all received the North Carolina Scholar Athlete Award  for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and higher.  

In Swimming, Women’s MVP – Waverly Blackwell, Women’s Most Improved – Evelyn Cruz.  In Men’s Swimming – Men’s Co – MVP Isaac Haut and Charlie Blackerby. Most Improved - Jose Sanchez Pereida. H20 Awards went to Jocelyn Cruz and Franco Stumbo. Waverly Blackewell, Charlie Blackerby and Isaac all were named to the Central Carolina  Conference Swim Team. Waverly Blackwell, Charlie Blackerby and Isaac Haut were all Region  Swimmers. Waverly Blackwell, Abbbie Callicutt, Kinsey Calderone, Evelyn Cruz, Jocelyin  Cruz, Emma O’Connell, Mary Thornhill, Sarah Thornhill, Jose Sanchez and Charlie Blackerby all received the North Carolina Scholar Athlete Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and higher.  

In Wrestling, Aveon Newell received the MVW Award. Co – Most Improved Awards went to  Donte Pope and Chris Catrette. Peyton Cruse received the Coaches Award. Misty Canteen  received the Team Support Award for her selfless dedication to the wrestling program for over 5  years. Aveon Newell and Peyton Cruse were both named to the Central Carolina Conference  Wrestling Team. Peyton Cruse was CCC runner up Wrestler of the Year. Aveon Newell made it  to the State Finals but did not place. Chris Catrette and Jamarion Wright both received the  Lexington Academic Award for having a GPA above 3.0.  

In Varsity Women’s Basketball, Jadyiah Peoples was named MVP and Aquariah McIntosh was  named Most Improved. Shanteria Bostic was the recipient of the Coaches Award. Anaizja  Newell received the Jacket Pride Award. Jadyiah Peoples was named to the Central Carolina  Conference Women’s Basketball Team. Shanteria Bostic, My’Asia Dalton, Anaizja Newell all  received the Lexington Academic Award for having a GPA above 3.0. Emre Blackwell, Eret  Blackwell, Aquariah McIntosh, Jadyiah Peoples, Leslie Ramos and Azana Searles all received  the North Carolina Scholar Athlete Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and higher.  

In JV Men’s Basketball, Kimoni Smalls was named MVP and Khalid Harris was named Most  Improved. Wesley Fields and Kimoni Smalls both received the Lexington Academic Award for having a  GPA above 3.0. Cameron Eubanks and Micah Owens both received the North Carolina Scholar  Athlete Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and higher. 

In Varsity Men’s Basketball, Javien Hogan - Reid was named MVP and Elijah Bobo received  the Most Improved Award. Javien Hogan – Reid and Micah Williams were both named to the  Central Carolina Conference Men’s Basketball Team. Micah Williams received All County  Team honors. Edward Castillo and Brandon Green both received the Lexington Academic  Award for having a GPA above 3.0. Life Yim was received the North Carolina Scholar Athletes  Award by maintaining GPA of 3.5 and higher.  

In Varsity Football, Jamarion Wright - was named Team MVP, Justin Sherrill was named Offensive MVP,  Noah Gist and Elijah Bobo were named Co - Defensive MVP, Zy’Ques Gordon was named Team Most  Improved. Offensive Freshmen of the Year Award – Brooks Calderone. Defensive Freshmen of the Year  Award – Devin Wells. Most Improved Freshmen – Daniel Hernandez. 100% Award – Jamarion Wright.  Team Leadership Award – Justin Sherrill. Jacket Scholar Awards – Charlie Blackerby and Noah Gist. Elijah  Bobo was named to the Central Carolina Conference All Defensive Team. The following Varsity Football  players received the NCHSAA Scholar Athlete Award – Brooks Calderone, Daniel Hernandez, Noah Gist,  Elijah Bobo and Charlie Blackerby for having a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Chris Catrette, Japree Pearson, Xavier  Wall and Jamarion Wright, all received the Lexington Academic Award for maintaining a 3.0 or higher GPA.  

Raquel Cervantes received the Bob Byerly Sportsmanship Award. Charlie Blackerby, Noah  Gist, Raquel Cervantes Espinosa and Caroline Pyle all received top academic excellence awards  for having the highest GPA’s for Male and Female student athletes.
