Man arrested due to infant fentanyl death

Press Release: In June 2024, Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division of the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office began a Narcotics Death Investigation after an adult victim and infant were located deceased in a residence, in Davidson County. The adult victim cause of death was suspected to be a drug overdose.

During this lengthy criminal investigation, Donta Octovius Williams of High Point was identified as the person who distributed the narcotics to the adult victim while the infant was present. Once the toxicology and autopsy results were received, the cause of death for the adult showed to be due to a Fentanyl Toxicity. The cause of death for the infant was found to be due to dehydration. On March 24, 2025, a State Grand Jury returned true bills of indictment for Williams on the charges of Death by Distribution and Second-Degree Murder.

On March 27, 2025, members of the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office and High Point Police Department arrested Williams on the criminal indictments without incident. Williams was placed into the Davidson County Jail with pre-condition of release set at $750,000.00 secured bond, and a court date set for March 31, 2025. Drug overdoses are one of the leading causes of death in adults and have risen over the past several years in the United States.
