Man shot during attempted break-in
Patrol Deputies with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office responded to call at 143 South Road in High Point in reference to an unknown domestic situation on September 6th. Upon their arrival Deputies located the suspect, William Ray Holmes behind the residence suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
It was later discovered that Holmes forced his way into the home and attempted to prevent the homeowner from calling 911 by taking the victim's cell phone. It was also found that he also had an active 50B restraining order against him, barring him from being at the property and from being around the residents. All parties in this investigation are known to each other and this was not believed to be a random act.
Upon the conclusion of the investigation, William Ray Holmes was taken into custody on September 7, 2024, and charged with felony breaking and entering with intent to terrorize, felony common law robbery, simple assault, domestic violence protective order violation, and interfering with emergency communications.
William Ray Holmes was brought before a Davidson County Magistrate where he was issued a court date of October 7, 2024, in Davidson County District Court, and was held in the Davidson County Detention Center
