Master Gardeners Garden Tour returns in June

Master Gardeners Garden Tour returns in June

What happens when you mix whimsy, garden art, traditional and unique plants in historic neighborhoods together?  You get the Davidson County Extension Master Gardener 2022 Garden Tour.  Join us here over the next five Saturdays as we give you a glimpse into the nine featured gardens in descriptions, video and pictures.  Until then, hold the dates…..Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5.

What will you see on the tour?  Nine gardens in the Historic West Second Avenue, Westover and Grimes Park area of Lexington.  With homes and neighborhoods dating back to the 1900’s, the gardens are preserved, restored and re-invented in a variety of styles and sizes.  You can stroll the delightful streets with towering trees, front porch swings, and friendly smiles.

The tour is walkable or you can park and visit two or three gardens at a time.  While you’re visiting the host gardens, Davidson County Master Gardener docents will be available to answer your questions. You don’t want to miss these gardens. Tickets are $20 and will go on sale May 2nd at Backyard Retreat. Buy your tickets early to read about the gardens and make notes about what you want to see most!

Who is the Davidson County Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Association (DCEMGVA)?

We are a group of folks who love nature and love to garden.  We love having green spaces and plants around us.

We’re also a resource for you to get answers to your gardening questions.  Whether it be a question or problem with your plants, flowers, lawns, vegetables, shrubs, fruit or trees.  You can give us a call at 336-242-2091.

It is also a volunteer group that you’ll see around the county making improvements to public spaces, like the project now being completed at the Arcadia Community Center.  You’ll see our volunteers at the Farmer’s Market providing gardening demonstrations.  We also ‘gardenscape’ the South Main Street Entrance to the Barbecue Festival where trolley riders first enter the Festival.  You can see the work of our volunteers in our demonstration gardens at the DC Agricultural Center at 301 East Center Street.  Open anytime, you can get ideas about plants that thrive in our humid clay soil and get gardening inspiration.

We’re known not only for the Garden Tour, which funds scholarships and community projects, but also our fall plant sale.

DCEMGVA is a fun group.  In addition to having monthly educational opportunities, you get behind the scenes tours of garden spaces across North Carolina.  You can get more information about us on our Facebook page (NC Davidson County Extension Master Gardener Association) or the Extension Website (https://davidson.ces.ncsu.edu).

Want to become a Master Gardener?  The next class to become a CERTIFIED Master Gardener is being planned for early 2023.  There’s information on the website or call Sam Boring at 336-242-2091.

Until next Saturday….go outside and enjoy Mother Nature’s spring beauty.
