After a two-year hiatus, Davidson County NAACP’s parade honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. is returning to Main Street in Lexington.

The 25th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Parade will be held Monday, January 16, at 1 p.m. with a host of celebratory activities.

This year’s parade, according to 25-year parade chairperson Leon Hargrave, is highly anticipated. Hargrave noted the parade has seen a boost in entries. From church groups to elected officials, Davidson County’s celebration of civil rights will be on full display.

“This started when the county approved the MLK holiday. We wanted everyone to be proud…I am hoping and praying…we didn’t have it because of COVID. We’re excited to come back.”

The parade will begin a lineup at Lexington Senior High School on Monday morning. Participants may take part by contacting Hargrave.

Entries are still being accepted by contacting Hargrave at 336.240.9391.

There is a $30 entry fee requested for registration.

Hargrave explained that fees directly benefit the work of the Davidson County NAACP.
