New dental practice opens in Tyro

Dr. Kushan Shah and his wife, Dr. Mansi Shah, have opened a new dental practice in Tyro that aims to provide accessible and affordable care for the whole family.

My Dentaville, located at 4423 N.C. Highway 150, Suite E, offers everything from routine cleanings to oral surgery for both children and adults.

The 2,900-square-foot office is in the space where Snap Fitness gym was formerly located near the Pizza Hut. The space includes four treatment rooms, a lab, a surgical suite, a patient education office and a waiting room for adults and another area with toys for children.

Dr. Kushan Shah said he chose the practice’s name because so many cities in North Carolina have “ville” as part of the moniker and it conveys a “small town” atmosphere that sounds like a neighborhood dentist.

“We want it to be like a family practice where the kids, the wife, the husband, the grandparents all come for their dental care,” he said.

After working for many years in other practices, the Shahs chose Tyro for their first office based on the fact there is no dentist in the town and people in the western part of Davidson County have to travel into Lexington, Salisbury or Winston-Salem to seek dental care.

“Tyro is a small town but it’s part of a bigger community of more than 4,000 people,” Shah noted.

“Everything is digital and modern,” he said as he led a tour of the office, which includes having small monitors and earphones for patients in treatment chairs.

“People don’t want to hear all the noise” of drilling, for example. “It’s a good distraction, especially for the kids.”

Shah has a panoramic X-ray machine and other state-of-the-art equipment to provide services such as tooth extractions, dental implants, root canals, crowns, composite fillings and dental bonding, bridges and dentures. He does not offer sedation services.

My Dentaville accepts most insurance and has applied to accept Medicaid coverage. In-house financing programs are available for people without insurance.

For patients without dental insurance, the practice is also offering a membership program, My Denta Care Discount Dental Plan, in which patients pay an annual fee that covers cleanings and X-rays and offers discounts on related services.

My Dentaville is currently open only from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays.

As the practice grows with more patients, Shah said his wife will join him in the office and they will also add a dental hygienist and expand hours.

The couple has planned to open their own dental practice for many years after completing their schooling. They are both 2011 graduates of Gujarat University in India with bachelor’s degrees in dental surgery. After practicing in India, they moved to Fort Worth, Texas, to earn their master’s degrees in public health at the University of North Texas. They both graduated from Boston University with Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry degrees in 2017.

Shah shared an uncle of his was one of the first Indian dentists in New York in the 1970s and he encouraged his nephew to further his education in the U.S. to be exposed to cutting-edge technology in the field of dentistry.

In addition to schooling, the Shahs have worked at a dental practice in Concord, where they reside, for the past seven years.

“We had to wait until we got enough experience and financial backing to open our own practice,” Shah explained.

While Shah is currently only in the office Tuesday and Fridays, people can call the office manager, Lydia Ramos, to make appointments at (336) 296-3330 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Prospective patients may also make appointments online and fill out paperwork on the website at www.mydentaville.com.
