New weekly food truck rodeo to begin in July

New weekly food truck rodeo to begin in July

If you’ve been hoping, wishing and praying that a food truck rodeo would become a regular occurrence in Lexington, your dream will soon be a reality. Beginning July 6, Food Truck Thursdays will become a weekly happening at the Breeden Insurance Amphitheater (333 S. Main St) in Uptown Lexington. The event begins at 4:30 and ends at 8:30 p.m.

Tranise Brown, along with her husband, Travis, are the masterminds behind the new offering. Originally from Miami, Florida, Tranise wanted to bring some of the “flavor” from her hometown to North Carolina. Sharing this was something they “did all the time back home,” the Browns, who reside in Salisbury, began seeking a venue for their vision.

Last August, they launched Food Truck Tuesdays in Salisbury at the Rowan County Fairgrounds on Julian Rd. Visitors of the popular event include Lexington residents, prompting many to inquire about bringing the rodeo a little farther north.

“We’ve been asked by many to bring it here but it was all about God’s timing,” said Tranise.

On the first Saturday in June, the Lexington Senior High School PTO hosted a food truck rodeo as a fundraiser. Contacted to organize the event by a friend of hers, Ms. Chunie, Tranise was encouraged by the strength of its success. The Browns were able to witness Lexington’s eagerness for what Tranise deems “the largest outdoor food court to ever come here!”

Almost immediately, the couple was able to locate the ideal location. Calling the amphitheater “beautiful and amazing,” Tranise was equally excited about the stage at the site because music (via DJs or bands) will be the soundtrack for the event.

Other than great food options, a chance to get out of the house and not cook and the opportunity to catch up with friends and neighbors, if you need a reason to partake of Food Truck Thursdays, Tranise simply asks, “Why not?”

I guess we’ll soon find out.

For those who haven’t ventured “across the river” to attend Food Truck Tuesdays, here’s what to expect:

  • A variety of food and non-food vendors – the goal is always 50 or more

  • Food trucks will encompass a wide range of cuisines, or as Tranise states, “foods to fit any moods”

  • Free entry

  • Food Truck Thursdays will be family friendly – you’re encouraged to bring blankets/lawn chairs

  • No pets are allowed with the exception of service dogs

*Interested vendors should reach out to Tranise via Facebook - Food Truck Tuesdays or on Instagram -foodtrucktuesdays704.

*Food Truck Tuesdays, Lunchtime Wednesdays and Third Sundays will still occur at the Rowan County Fairgrounds.
