Novant Health recognized for food insecurity campaign, Novant Health Nourishes

Novant Health received The Cigna Group’s Health Equity Action Gold Award, the highest honor, for work addressing food insecurity in the greater Winston-Salem area through Novant Health Nourishes, a campaign designed to address food insecurity in partnership with the Novant Health Foundation. Since the program launch in January 2022, Novant Health has conducted nearly 370,000 screenings for food insecurity and connected nearly 60% of food insecure patients with a local community resource.

The Cigna Group recently launched the Health Equity Action Awards to celebrate and recognize their Collaborative Accountable Care (CAC) provider partners who are going above and beyond to achieve health equity. This is the 15th year of the CAC program.

As the winner of the gold award, Novant Health was presented with $10,000 to support the program through a 501C3 charity of choice. The award will go to Novant Health foundations to continue to support Novant Health Nourishes.

The award was accepted on behalf of Novant Health by Novant Health team members: Chere Gregory, MD, senior vice president and chief health equity officer, Novant Health; Heather Egan, chief philanthropy officer, Novant Health Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center Foundation and Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center Foundation; Dana Casson, vice president, Novant Health Foundation; Erik Helms, senior vice president and chief payor performance officer, Novant Health; and Kimberly Dull, director of performance, community engagement and social determinants of health, Novant Health.

Novant Health also participated in The Cigna Group's national client account forum to share more about the Novant Health Nourishes initiative and outcomes with hundreds of the nation's leading businesses and organizations, with the goal of helping others enact similar programs to address health disparities and build awareness from their findings.
