Obituary: Juan Small

Juan O’neil Small, age 58, was born September 20, 1964 in Lexington, North Carolina. He is the son of Ruth Holt and the late Frank Roberts. He departed his earthly life September 25, 2022 at his residence in Lexington, North Carolina.

Juan, affectionately known as Churb, was educated in the Lexington City School System. After 29 years of service, Juan worked from the Lexington Housing Authority. He was a member of Old Smith Grove View Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, former member of the Trustee Board, maintenance supervisor for the church and willingly served in any other capacity needed. Juan was also a member of the Ebony Bassmasters Fishing Club.

Known for his expert mowing skills, Juan started his very own landscaping company. He believed in having a well-manicured lawn and wanted his friends and family members to have beautiful lawns as well. He enjoyed mowing, cooking, watching sports, westerns and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Roberts; stepmother, Evelyn T. Roberts and a brother, Roland Roberts.

Juan was a peaceful and humble servant who was fun-loving and always willing to lend a helping hand to his fellowman. His memory will forever be cherished by his devoted wife of 30 years, Patty Melton Small of the home; son, Juan O. Hargrave of Lexington, North Carolina; two daughters, Tasha Melton and Shanda Small, both of Lexington, North Carolina; six grandchildren: Nkosi Barnes, Kaleb Melton, Kimoni Small, Kiraman Small, Khyree Small and Khyani Small; his loving mother, Ruth Holt Small; three brothers: Nathaniel (Melissa) Small, John Small, Robert Small; four sisters: Marilyn Small, Sondra Roberts, Rachel Small-Ingram and Debra Verdell; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The Celebration of Life for Mr. Juan O'neil Small will be conducted at 3:00 PM Saturday, October 1, 2022 at First United Methodist Church, 310 S. Main Street, Lexington, North Carolina with moments of sharing at 2:30 PM prior to the hour of service.
