West to give recital on Sunday, June 26th
Emma West was born and raised in Lexington, North Carolina where she graduated from Lexington Senior High School in 2019. Throughout middle and high school, Emma was involved in theater, dance classes at Sheets’ Dance Academy, and choir at Lexington Senior High School under the direction of Melonie Rector. Emma also studied music privately from elementary through high school with Winston-Salem based music educator and composer, Bruce W. Tippette. In studying under Mr. Tippette and Mrs. Rector, Emma was able to participate in numerous honor choirs and festivals while at Lexington City Schools. This led her to attend the North Carolina Governor’s School West for Choral Music in 2018 where she resolved to study classical music in her undergraduate degree. Emma began pursuing a Bachelor of Music Performance in Classical Voice at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois in the Fall of 2019, and she is set to graduate in the Spring of 2023.
Emma will be giving a free public performance of her undergraduate junior recital on Sunday, June 26th at 2pm at First Reformed United Church of Christ accompanied by Mr. Tippette. This program was originally performed on Friday, April 22 in Kaeuper Hall at Millikin University, but Emma wished to bring it back with her to North Carolina in a homecoming performance for her community. The program will run approximately 30-45 minutes long, and will include classical music spanning four historical eras in the languages of French, Italian, German, and English.
