Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk - July 8, 2022

Dear Friends,

After closing out short session last week, the North Carolina General Assembly has adjourned until July 26th. Until then, we will be anticipating the Governor's decisions regarding all we accomplished during our time in Raleigh.

As of Thursday, Governor Cooper has begun to sign several bills into law, totaling 11 new laws this week. These were just a few of the dozens bills waiting to become laws.

Governor Cooper signed an executive order this week regarding women's reproductive health and access to abortions. This was done before any abortion legislation had been acted on in the General Assembly.

The legislature is still waiting on Governor Cooper to sign the State Budget Plan which was passed the last day of session. See a detailed overview of the budget below. If you like it contact the Governor's office and ask him to sign it!

The legislature filed several bills concerning the appointments to the Board of Governors of North Carolina, which have been approved by Governor Cooper. Many positions still stand to be filled at this time.

One of North Carolina's largest military bases has officially announced its new name as Fort Liberty. This new name follows the disapproval of some of the actions and beliefs of the base's former namesake.

I had a great time at the Troy-Fest celebrating our nation's independence and serving as a grand marshal in the annual parade!

Three Davidson County Sheriff's Deputies are retiring after 30 years of faithful service. Thank you for your hard work and dedication gentlemen!
