Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk

Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk

I hope that you have been enjoying some of our beautiful Spring weather this past week and that you dried out after the entire state received so much rainfall before Easter!

My Senate colleagues and I have been working in our districts this week, connecting with residents and working on legislative requests. Last week, General Assembly members filed a record number of bills. Our next deadline is crossover on May 4th, when the Senate and the House chambers exchange bills that have made it through their respective committees and passed the voting process.

There has been a lot of mention of SB 341 Safety and Emission Inspection Modifications in the news lately. I am eager to provide a common sense, cost-saving measure for drivers in our state. Listen to an interview with a Charlotte news station discussing the merits of the bill below.

Check out my new Bills Spotlight section to read highlights about other bills that I have introduced this session! The first bills featured in this section are SB 604 Motorcycle Road Guard Certification and SB 301 Designate May as Learn to Fly Month.

Davidson County Department of Social Services is hosting an in-person Job Fair for several types of positions on April 20th. Please pre-register before attending using the link in the section below. They really need your help and can't wait to meet you!

In other news in Davidson County, the Shining Star award was given to Mr. Chris Bitterman during the North Carolina Association on Aging

Annual Conference held in Charlotte. Mr. Bitterman is the Senior Services Volunteer Coordinator who does an outstanding job in his role for the seniors in our community.

Roadwork will be impacting your travel in certain areas around Denton and Thomasville again. The areas affected by the road improvements are listed in more detail below.

EnergyUnited is offering a fantastic opportunity for educators. The Bright Ideas grant is accepting applications now and can be used towards all curriculum areas. Over $1 million has been awarded during this grant's lifetime.

The NC Wildlife Commission is asking residents of NC to report armadillo sightings. This unusual animal has been slowly creeping into our area due to milder winters months and habitat loss further south.

Davie County has some exciting events happening during the next week. I am featuring a few in case you are interested in joining. Please help support your local businesses with your presence and bring a friend!

If you have concerns, or questions, you can reply to this newsletter, email, or call my office at (919) 733-5743.

I also take time each day to personally call citizens in our district to listen to their concerns. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you!
