Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk

Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk

Dear Friends,

I hope you are having a great week at home and at work. The General Assembly is buzzing with activity leading up to our next big deadline of this session, also known as Crossover. The House and Senate passed 29 bills before lunchtime on Thursday, so the race is on to get bills through at least one chamber by the end of next week.

One Senate Bill receiving a lot of attention this week involves the Opportunity Scholarship. I have mentioned SB 406 in recent newsletters. The bill designed to provide more school choices using this scholarship has passed in the Senate this week! I was glad to stand in support at a Press Conference this week.

Speaking of big news, Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson announced his campaign bid for Governor over the weekend. I look forward to seeing more of him as he continues with his goal.

Historic decisions were made in the NC Supreme Court today! Three important rulings were secured on redistricting, voter identification and felon voting. Read below for a brief summary about these landmark hearing conclusions.

In my Bills Spotlight this week, I would like to share two bills, SB 617 ATV Safety Course Exceptions and SB 677 Surveyors Right of Entry. Both of these bills are designed to provide a variety of safety measures for North Carolinians and I am pleased to see their quick movement through our committees.

There is a child care grant available to many counties in NC. This grant would help fund improvement costs or even assist with new programs in our area. Check out the information below if this is an area you are passionate about!

Our district has a history of high quality education for students. Another teacher in Davidson county has recently been chosen as a finalist for Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics. Read below to find out which school in district 30 this teacher inspires students.

Another Davie county intersection will be impacted by roadwork, so I am keeping you updated on the location. If you are driving in the area of Wilkesboro St. or Yadkinville Rd. in Mocksville, a lengthy project is beginning soon.

This weekend's local area offerings have a little bit of something for everyone. You can help fight MS by walking with a friend at the park, participate in a murder mystery to celebrate a beloved movie or offer gratitude in the form of prayer later in the week. Read through the highlighted upcoming events below!

If you have concerns, or questions, you can reply to this newsletter, email, or call my office at (919) 733-5743.

I also take time each day to personally call citizens in our district to listen to their concerns. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you!
