Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk
Dear Friends,
I hope you have had a productive and happy week as we move into the second week of December. As we leave the first week behind, I wanted to take time to recognize the loss of many military members during the bombing of Pearl Harbor that occurred on December 7th, 1941. While the attack happened 82 years ago, its impact has not been forgotten.
I enjoyed participating in so many Christmas parades last weekend! These community traditions are so important to many of us and I have a great time riding through the streets to see you all.
The General Assembly was humming the past few days as Interim Committee announcements came out. I am eager to begin hearing new ideas that will improve our district and our state once we start meetings in January.
Election filing began December 4th. Get to know your candidates and all the details for voting in your precincts by visiting your county's Board of Elections office's websites or in person.
Several new laws came into effect last week in NC. I have highlighted a few that took priority for many lawmakers in a section below.
The North Carolina State Board of Agriculture has a new member who was recently appointed by the Governor. Since farming and agriculture is so prominent in our area, it is important to know who can advocate for the farming communities in district 30.
The North Carolina Emergency Management Office wants you to know that it is Winter Weather Preparedness Week. The Farmer's Almanac is predicting that NC will see higher snowfall totals this year, so please take time now to get ready for the first icy blast!
"The People's House", also known as the Executive Mansion in Raleigh is open for holiday tours this weekend. If you are in the Raleigh area, this is a treat for architecture, history or holiday buffs! The Victorian style mansion shows off its finery and has many volunteers to offer details about the home while you visit.
The Golden Leaf Foundation has chosen the Pastor's Pantry of Davidson County to benefit from funding for its charity. Congratulations to this vital organization which really strives to take care of our seniors' needs!
NCDOT and the NC Airports Authority are sponsoring an Aviation Art Contest for students until January 17, 2024. Winners have an opportunity to move up to the national competition in Washington, D.C. and Switzerland. Let's see how creative you can be with the art of flight!
We have a few more Christmas parades going on this weekend. I hope to see you at one or maybe I'll see you at another holiday event. Options to choose from are plentiful and it can certainly help you get into the spirit of the season.
