Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk - April 15, 2022
Dear Friends,
I hope it has been a Good Friday for everyone as we move into Easter weekend! It won't be long before we're in session once again. Hard to believe it, but summer is almost here!
This week in Raleigh, myself and members of the North Carolina General Assembly met in with the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Health and Human Services as well as the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Capital Improvements. Many interesting projects and topics being discussed in committees.
President Joe Biden visited Greensboro Thursday to speak at North Carolina A&T about the country's economy. House Speaker Tim Moore released a special statement about the matter, which can be found below.
Although Biden encouraged students to believe that the economy is doing well, inflation is up 7.9% from this time last year.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention announced that the mask mandate on trains, planes and buses will be extended until May 3rd. It was previously set to expire on Monday, April 18th.
In one of North Carolina's most famous court cases, Leandro v. State of N.C., a new judge has heard arguments about forcing the state to pay the remaining sum of money, nearly $800 million. Attorneys representing the General Assembly have argued that such a court order is outside of the jurisdiction of the judicial branch.
In a short video released Wednesday, UNC star player Armando Bacot announced he would be returning for a final season. This might be enough to take Carolina to a National Championship in 2023.
With spring break travel in full force, North Carolina officials are cracking down on speeding drivers with the "Speed a Little, Lose a Lot campaign".
This upcoming Sunday, April 17th, is Easter Sunday. Please join us in reflecting on and celebrating the Resurrection! Once again, Happy Easter from my family to yours!
