Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk - August 26, 2022
Dear Friends,
Another busy legislative week has come to a close. Let's see what's been going on!
This week, legislative leaders met to discuss topics of last session, next session, and current events and take a stance on those issues. This was a non-voting session but a chance for conference between the chambers.
Davidson County will be another stop on the map! A charter bus system is running a route through several Davidson County towns, making travel easier than ever.
The North Carolina House of Representatives has created a new standing committee catered to women in STEM. This committee will promote and discuss legislation pertaining to women in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math.
The Davidson County Fair and Barbecue Festival are back! After a long two year hiatus due to COVID-19, both events will be taking place this year.
The North Carolina Community College System is operating under temporary new leadership. They are looking to install a new president soon, but in the meant time are focusing on their current projects.
Davidson Local News was awarded at the NC Press Association Convention. We are so grateful for our local news sources and happy they are getting the recognition they deserve!
I was able to attend the Thomasville State of the City and County Address this week where we discussed the past, present, and future of our community. It was a wonderful way to share all of successes of Thomasville & the County over the past year and learn what the future holds.
The City of Lexington hosted a Business Social with all of its government officials. This quarterly gathering is a great way to catch up on what is happening on all levels of government.
The Denton Street Festival has been scheduled for October 8th! This is a wonderful fall tradition that promotes and celebrates the community.
