Dear Friends,

I really hope that you were able to enjoy a pleasant gathering over the Thanksgiving holiday last week!

Breaking news--Governor Cooper has appointed the next State Auditor to take Auditor Wood's place. Jessica Holmes, former Wake County Commissioner has been chosen for the role. She will begin her duties on December 15th.

Medicaid expansion was passed during the Long Session. The day of the rollout for NC residents has finally arrived this week. Many more people will be able to receive the help they need for medical issues. You can read more about how to obtain healthcare coverage here.

A recent voter election lawsuit received a ruling this week. The US District Court ordered that the briefing's decision could not be expedited as requested by the plaintiffs from northeastern NC. The case can still proceed but will be ongoing during the upcoming campaign and election season of 2024.

Did you know North Carolina is the nation’s second-largest producer of Christmas trees? Our state has provided Christmas trees to our nation’s capital for many years. This year's tree will be featured in the Blue Room of the White House and was grown in Ashe County.

Davidson-Davie Community College (DDCC) recently shared the announcement of who their next president will be. The DDCC network is excited to welcome Ms. Varner, who has also served as the interim president since July.

A Lithium battery pouch manufacturing company just revealed their intent to build a new facility in Davidson County. Dai Nippon Printing will create 352 new jobs at their location in Linwood. The average annual salary for the new positions is $50,281.

A popular program offered at Thomasville's library is receiving accolades! The NC Public Libraries Directors Association has chosen "Family Portraits at the Library" for its top programming award. The program has served over 375 people in three years.

My wife and I are excited to participate in Journey to Bethlehem again during the Christmas season. This live nativity is the largest one in NC and SC! The event will be held through this weekend in Thomasville.

If you are proud of your holiday display in your yard and you live in the city of Lexington, you should consider entering the Light Up the Block contest. The deadline to submit a photo of your decorations is December 3rd. Winners will be chosen by December 18th.

Speaking of Christmas displays, we have several parade events going on this weekend. Come watch the decorated floats, classic cars and cheerful citizens in one of our community parades. I will be waving to you while I ride by!
