We are so glad to be back after a brief break for Thanksgiving, I hope you all had a wonderful holiday.

The Joint Legislative Committee on Education Oversight met this week to discuss upcoming education policy for the new session. Public schools, colleges and community colleges were all discussed.

The NC Senate Page Program is Open for the 2023 Session! This program offers young men and women the opportunity to learn about and participate in the legislative process of our state.

December has start and so have community Christmas festivities! The communities of district 29 have always hosted wonderful Christmas events, we hope you'll make it to a local parade or two!

While the North Carolina General Assembly hasn’t had voting sessions since the summer, several new laws are going into effect now. Several laws went into effect December 1st including laws pertaining to domestic violence, wildlife, and theft control.

The State Board of Elections on Tuesday unanimously certified the results of the 2022 general election in North Carolina. The certification means that the board members are confident that the votes cast on Nov. 8 have been counted and tabulated correctly.

North Carolina, the nation’s second-largest producer of Christmas trees, has a special relationship with providing Christmas trees to our nation’s capital. Not only has the state provided the Capitol Christmas Tree this year for the third time, but it has also provided Christmas trees to the White House 14 times, more than any other state.

North Carolinians are just weeks away from receiving more money in their paychecks, as a new income-tax reduction is set to go in effect. The action taken by state legislators last year in the 2021-22 state budget is being recognized nationally by Forbes.

The Davidson County Board of Commissioners has decreased the number of members on the Davidson County Airport Authority at the request of the organization. During its regular meeting on Monday, the county commissioners unanimously voted to lower the number of members on the Davidson County Airport Authority from nine members to seven.

Electricity rates will rise 9.9% on Thursday for Duke Energy Progress customers in Asheville, Raleigh and eastern North Carolina, because of higher costs for natural gas. Duke says the increase will drop back to 9.3% on Jan. 1, when other rate adjustments for energy efficiency take effect.

A Lexington doctor has been ordered by the N.C. Medical Board to close his medical practice because of the number of opioid prescriptions written in recent years, as well as other issues. On Nov. 21, the N.C. Medical Board voted that Dr. Charles Wayne Plummer must close the Restoration Internal Medicine clinic, also called Restoration of Lexington no later than Dec. 21.

Triad business leaders are reacting after the United Furniture Industries’ mass layoff. The news of the terminations and loss of benefits went out in a text to about 500 former UFI Piedmont employees. The companies have been stepping up and encouraging those workers to apply for their jobs.
