Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk - July 15, 2022
Dear Friends,
We've had a busy week in the legislature, from Governor Cooper's decisions to North Carolina industry. Let's see what all has been happening!
After the veto of SB 593 'Schools For The Deaf And Blind', there has been an overwhelming push for the legislature to try and over turn this decision. With bipartisan support, the bill went over favorably in the legislature.
After 10 years of service, Mayor of Lexington Newell Clark passed the torch to Jason Hayes: the newly sworn in Mayor of Lexington. Hayes was sworn into office along with four new city counsel members.
As the economy continues to waiver, it is important to prepare for the effects of recession. Some steps that can be taken during times of economic uncertainty can make things easier on ourselves and our communities.
Governor Cooper traveled to Washington D.C. this week for the White House Summit. This event took place for the leaders of our country to discuss and strategize for the future of our nation's economy.
North Carolina was named #1 in the nation for business, making it a great place for industry to move in and thrive. I am proud to be a representative of the majority party who's strong tax and financial policy initiatives have propelled this state with such economic success.
Hollywood is taking on North Carolina as 3 new film and television projects will be filmed and made in our state.
Governor Cooper signed the State Budget Plan into law this week, finalizing all of the allocated funding for localities and projects in the state. I am pleased that many of the projects, in District 29, which total $5.8 million, are making growth and improvement possible in our local communities.
