Dear Friends,

Just like the rain, we have been going nonstop all week here in Raleigh. We have spent a lot of time debating bills back and forth both in committees and on the Senate floor. I will give you updates on prominent bills below.

Two of the most major bills that have been in discussions this week are SB 631 - Minor Gender Trans. Proc./Public Providers and SB 639 - Youth Health Protection Act. Both of these bills have House companion bills, meaning they have similar versions being sent through the House of Representatives as bills as well. These bills, along with SB 636 - School Athletic Transparency, set clear boundaries for sports participation and medical care available to minors. I will list those companion bills below and note any major differences in the bills for further clarification.

Governor Cooper has also been very busy this week with his veto stamp. Over the past week and a half, Gov. Cooper vetoed four bills, some backed with major bipartisan support. This has brought his total number of vetoes to 81 - the most vetoes of any NC governor combined. Learn more about the bills the Governor has vetoed below.

Very exciting news! I presented a few pieces of legislation to committees, both in the House and the Senate, and they are making great progress. HB 488 - Code Council Reorg. and Var. Code Amend., a campion bill to my Senate Bill version, made it to the Senate floor on Thursday. Additionally, SB 169 - Davidson Cty Rezoning. was heard in House committees this week and have accrued some great additions. You can learn more about both of those bills below!

We have three very special congratulations to extend to some of our younger community members! Natalie Petteys, Aleigha Fincham, and Levi Pifer of Silver Valley Elementary School received honors awards at their fifth-grade graduation on June 9th. Learn more about their top accolades accomplishments below.

A new coffee shop is coming to the Welcome community. Amanda and Steven Everson, owners of Factory - Coffee & Waffles in Lexington, are opening a second store named Factory Coffee and Soda Shop. The new store will be located at 6282 Old Highway 52 in the former Go Make Coffee Co.

On this weeks discovering the District, we head over to Washington Park, located in Lexington. the park is home to several different amenities and is a great option for some summer fun outdoors.

If you have concerns, or questions, you can reply to this newsletter, email, or call my office at (919) 733-5743.

I also take time each day to personally call citizens in our district to listen to their concerns. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you!
