Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk - March 25, 2022
Dear Friends,
It's been a quiet legislative week here in Raleigh but we're still staying busy and working for you all, as it's an honor to serve the 29th district! Let's roll right into this weeks newsletter:
Gov. Cooper announced that local governments in North Carolina can apply for the Rural Transformation Grant Fund, which will be administered by the Department of Commerce.
The N.C. Board of Community Colleges has finished its review of system president, Peter Stith, and after a three hour meeting last week, set goals for him. Davidson County's very own, Burr Sullivan, is currently serving as the Chairman of the North Carolina Community Colleges Board.
Piedmont Mediation in Statesville, N.C. is an organization dedicated to helping convicted minors practice restorative justice. They serve the whole Piedmont region, and we're grateful for all the work they do in Davidson County.
If you or anyone you know of is interested in serving as a N.C. Senate Page, please see the article below about applying. We would love to have some pages from District 29 this summer!
Every year the North Carolina Department of Transportation hosts the 'Litter Sweep' campaign, mobilizing volunteers around the state to clean our roads. This is a great way to help our districts roadsides stay beautiful and clean!
High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors can apply to attend Cooperative Leadership Camp this summer. It will be held June 20-24, 2022 at Camp Monroe in Laurel Hill, NC, and students who are accepted can attend for free.
If you have concerns, or questions, you can reply to this newsletter, email, or call my office at (919) 733-5743.
I also take time each day to personally call citizens in our district to listen to their concerns. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you!
Senator Steve Jarvis,
NC District 29
