Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk - October 20, 2023
Dear Friends,
Greetings from our office in Raleigh! I hope this letter finds you in the best of health and spirits. It is with great pleasure that I reach out to you as we witness the days of October slipping away before our very eyes. The brisk autumn air carries with it the promise of change, and I couldn't be more thrilled to share in the beauty of our community during this splendid season.
The Redistricting Committees have been hard at work creating election maps. This process was mandated by a recent state Supreme court ruling, and the outcome was discussed in our committee process. Voting on the maps should occur soon.
The clock is ticking on the time left to take advantage of cost-free applications for North Carolina universities. If you have a high school senior and want to save money during the application process, Friday is the deadline! Two schools are not participating--UNC and NC State.
The NC State Fair is rolling into its final weekend. Don't miss the chance to visit and enjoy the great food, exciting rides and fascinating sights of our state's popular fair.
Early voting has arrived! You can cast your vote for municipal elections in the district from Oct. 19th-Nov. 3rd. The sites with their times are shown further down in the body of the newsletter.
EnergyUnited has stepped up to help those in need in our communities. Habitat for Humanity will receive a portion of $100,000 to serve families and individuals who are need of secure housing. Both Lexington-area and Davie branches of Habitat for Humanity will benefit.
Friendship Elementary school has just been awarded a $3000 grant from the NC Youth Outdoor Engagement Commission, which will be used to help fund a field trip to Miracle Heights Adventures. I had the pleasure of calling Ms. Winfrey, 2nd grade teacher, to deliver the news. She is thrilled that her students have this opportunity!
Be on the lookout for wildlife acting strangely when you are enjoying the beautiful Fall weather. The 6th raccoon to be diagnosed with rabies was identified this past week in Davidson County. If you come in physical contact with an unusual acting mammal, seek medical help right away to get started on Rabies vaccinations.
If you are unable to get to Raleigh for the State Fair this weekend, there are plenty of activities to choose from in our district. Davie County has a Fall Fest in Farmington and a neat opportunity in Mocksville called Frankenstem sounds like an exciting, unique event for the kids.
If you have concerns, or questions, you can reply to this newsletter, email, or call my office at
(919) 733-5743.
I also take time each day to personally call citizens in our district to listen to their concerns. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you!
