Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk - September 2, 2022
Dear Friends,
We've had a great week at the General Assembly! Let's see what's been going on.
On Wednesday, I was able to join a roundtable hosted at the Davidson County Sheriff's Office by Senator Tom Tillis to discuss Senate Bill 101 and sanctuary city policies. It was a wonderful way to discuss future legislation and how to encourage bipartisan cooperation in the future.
Now at the beginning of September, its officially back to school season! Studies have shown students are doing better in school in post-pandemic times as they are going back to school in person this year.
This week I was able to tour farms around Davidson County with the Davidson Soil and Water Conservation District. It was great to see what has been going on in the farming community and see what is on the horizon!
The Retiree Health Benefit Fund is at its highest rate of funding since State Treasurer Dale R. Folwell, CPA, took office in 2017 and inherited a system mired in financial hardship.
Davidson County received a grant focused on Parks and Recreation funding of 500K. It is planned to be used on the Yadkin River Playground Project.
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission voted at its business meeting on Aug. 18 to adopt an emergency amendment to restrict the use of some natural deer attractants/scents in the Primary and Secondary Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Surveillance Areas.
I had the honor of visiting Carolina Christian Academy this week to discuss their growth plans and talk to students about the legislative process. Thank you Dr. Black and CCA family for having me!
The Davidson County 911 Center is excited to announce the launch of Prepared Live in our dispatch center. This program is designed to increase the efficiency of the 911 help center and get to those in need faster.
Labor Day is celebrated this Monday, September 5th. Thank you to all the hard working citizens in District 29!
