Press Release: Body found on Gumtree Road leads to arrest in Forsyth County
On Saturday, February 1, 2025, Deputies with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1700 block of Gumtree Rd in reference to an individual lying in a field. When Deputies arrived, the individual was pronounced deceased. Deputies secured the scene and Detectives from the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office responded where they began an investigation.
Detectives identified the individual as a 39-year-old female from Winston-Salem, NC. It was determined that the female victim had been murdered and placed in an open field. Detectives with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office were able to identify and locate the scene of the murder that occurred as well as the suspect, within the jurisdiction of the Winston-Salem Police Department.
At that time, Detectives from both, the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office and the Winston Salem Police Department worked throughout the night on the investigation. As a result, James Brewton, 56 of Winston Salem, NC was arrested and charged with 1st-degree murder. He was held in the Forsyth County Detention Center pending his court date.
