Press Release: LPD conducts joint operation with United States Marshals Service to arrest suspect
LEXINGTON, NC – On the morning of September 27, the Lexington Police Department conducted a joint operation with the United States Marshals Service for the western district of North Carolina, the Middle District of North Carolina, and the Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force at the residence of 802 South State Street in Lexington in regards to a wanted dangerous person. Investigators had probable cause to believe that Antonio Dontre Brooks, age 30, of Shelby, North Carolina, had been residing at and was currently inside the residence.
Brooks was wanted out of multiple jurisdictions on cases from 2022 and 2023 for the following charges: Attempted murder of a law enforcement officer (Shelby Police), assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, discharging a firearm into an enclosure, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (2 counts).
Lexington Police Department’s Special Response Team (LPD SRT) was deployed to work towards a safe and successful resolution of taking Brooks into custody. A standoff, lasting approximately two hours, ensued, and LPD SRT officers were able to force Brooks out of the residence using de-escalation techniques and resources.
Officers took Brooks into custody without incident. Brooks was turned over to U.S. Marshals following his arrest.
Lexington Police Department detectives then executed a search warrant at the residence, where they located and seized two firearms. Lexington Police Department detectives continue proudly working with these partner agencies to ensure that anything needed for a successful prosecution is completed.
