Press Release: Salvation Army launches annual Red Kettle Campaign

THE SALVATION ARMY RED KETTLES PROVIDE LOVE BEYOND CHRISTMAS

Annual Red Kettle Campaign Kicked Off November 10th

The familiar Red Kettle Campaign of The Salvation Army is in full swing here in Davidson County. The Salvation Army of Davidson County kicked-off the annual Red Kettle fundraising campaign November 10th . Every dollar raised through the Red Kettle Campaign remains in the community where it was given and makes it possible for The Salvation Army to deliver life changing programs and services throughout the year.

“From its humble beginnings in 1891 when a Salvation Army Captain used a crab pot to collect funds in San Francisco, the Red Kettle Campaign has grown into one of the best recognized fundraising campaigns anywhere,” said Major Ray Morton, leader of The Salvation Army of Davidson County. “Thanks to the support of donors, the money raised will help The Salvation Army provide food, assistance with shelter, and social services to people who come to us in crisis, often at the very worst times of their life.”

Thousands of families continue to struggle in the current economy. The Salvation Army is there, not only at Christmastime but all year round to help when times are tough; when people are forced to choose between paying the rent or the utility bill, when trying to find affordable afterschool childcare, when families need help putting food on the table, or when children need school supplies or new clothes for the school year. The generosity of the community during the Red Kettle Campaign provides essential funds for the Army to step in the gap in times of crisis.

Red Kettles will be out Monday-Saturday, from the beginning of November and continuing through Saturday, December 23 rd . You will find them stationed outside area stores including all Wal-Marts in Lexington and Thomasville, Food Lions and Lanier’s Ace Hardware this year. In addition to these sites, local small businesses throughout the community are hosting smaller counter kettles at their registers. Last year, The Salvation Army of Davidson County raised $70,000 and is hoping to raise $100,000 this season to meet the growing demands in the community.

For the third year, Salvation Army Red Kettles are enabled with smart chips for tap to pay and QR codes so donors can give through their smartphone using Apple or Google Pay, PayPal, and Venmo at the Red Kettle.

New this year are some additional opportunities to get involved. The first is the Community Kettle Challenge. This Holiday Season consider having your business sponsor a kettle with The Salvation Army. How it works: Choose to host a kettle at your business during the kettle season -OR- Sponsor a kettle for a day at a designated location and staff accordingly. Commit to a Fundraising Goal of $1000 (If community contributions do not meet the threshold, the business makes up the difference). Lastly, there is a Virtual Red Kettle Challenge where you or your organization can set up a fundraising page online for the Kettle Campaign by visiting
