River Rats hear about High Rock Lake cleanup
We had a very special guest speaker at our last River Rats meeting. Joey Hester is a Nutrient Strategy Coordinator from the Division of Water Resources, which is a branch of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality. Joey traveled from Raleigh to share with us their plans for cleaning up High Rock Lake. High Rock Lake was declared 'impaired' in 2004 by the NCDEQ. Their plan includes agricultural runoff, waste water, storm water & erosion controls. The plan includes High Rock Lake & the Yadkin River up to Kerr Scott Lake. Joey stated that there will be public meetings soon, so stand by for updates on meeting locations, dates & times.
