Salvation Army of Davidson County kitchen expansion update

Salvation Army of Davidson County kitchen expansion update

In 2021 it was announced that the current homeless shelter would be relocating to the property adjacent to The Salvation Army, which was purchased in that same year. In preparation of this move, The Salvation Army announced the expansion of the current kitchen and dining hall to accommodate the food services for the new shelter and its clients.

To meet this need, we will be adding an additional 1,800 square feet to our current building to be able to increase our feeding capacity from 60 to 250 people a day, 3 meals a day, seven days a week. Our kitchen area will have a new walk in fridge and freezer, full kitchen equipment upgrade and renovated bathrooms. This expansion will also include a renovation of our Social Service Department to offer a more accommodating lobby area for clients seeking services. In addition, this new space will serve as a Community Center and allow us to collaborate with community partners such as Davidson-Davie Community College and Davidson County Local Food Network along with others to provide additional resources and assistance to those seeking help.

Our expected timeline and hope is to secure funds by the 4th Quarter of 2023 and begin construction 1st Quarter of 2024.

We are actively soliciting donations for our expansion project. To date we have received 42% of our goal from supporting community members, grants and Salvation Army Board of Directors. We currently have 2 matching donations up to $200,000 each from NC State Senate Discretionary funds which were acquired for us by Senator Steve Jarvis and a private family foundation. With this match, that puts us a little over 84% to our goal and we need you and your contributions to secure the remainder in order to begin construction on this project.

Your support is needed now more than ever in this community effort to help those in most need. No donation is too big or too small and 100% of all donations are applied to this building expansion.

“Doing The Most Good” has never been so easy.

A brief history on how this new partnership formed between the Salvation Army of Davidson County and DC First Hope. This collaborative effort was initially started in 2018 by over 50 community partners called Community Solutions. This group met for 2 years and the result was a new organization, DC Connect, Inc. was formed. The mission of DC Connect is to serve as a gateway to community resources primarily for Davidson County residents who are experiencing homelessness, substance misuse, and or post-incarceration. The initial steps in continuing this community effort is to consolidate the services provided in our community. The new partnership of The Salvation Army of Davidson County and DC First Hope will add value to our community and allow us to better serve the citizens of Davidson County to reach our goal of creating a better gateway to success.
