Second annual Pink Day being held to raise funds for mammograms

On Saturday, October 8, Thomasville resident, Blythe Leonard, will host the second annual Pink Day at BL Maker’s Market from 10am to 2pm. It’s located at 12 E. Guilford St. Thomasville, NC 27360. We asked Leonard to share information about the upcoming event, her reasons for starting it and what she hopes to accomplish.

What is Pink Day?

  • Pink Day is an annual Breast Cancer Awareness festival. This event will take place this This event will both celebrate those who have battled this disease as well as to raise money for those who are in need of a life saving mammogram through Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center Foundation Mammography Fund.

Why did you start Pink Day?

  • Along with being a resident, I’m also a member of the Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center Foundation board. I started Pink Day to raise money for the Foundation’s Mammography Fund. I’ve lived within this community for generations. After watching both my grandmother and great-grandmother battle breast cancer, I decided to do what I could to unite my talent for furniture design, love for my community and new passion for breast health to lead two fundraising events. Along with The Big Pink Chair Project, which has set a goal of raising $60,000 to provide lifesaving screenings through the Novant Health Foundation mammography fund, this Saturday’s Pink Day event also raises funds towards the Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center Foundation Mammography Fund which helps to pay for 300 uninsured women in Thomasville each year to receive a mammogram. Every mammogram costs $200.
