Siceloff releasing second novel on Friday
On February 5, local dentist and author, Daniel Siceloff will release his second book, ‘Savage Savior.’ The book is a sequel to his first book, Yuri and The Dragon Key. Siceloff desires to extend this plotline into a five or six book series, and hopes to have his third book published by 2023.
When asked to describe the plot of the second installation in the series, Siceloff said, “Savage Savior follows Tlilet as he grows into a young man in the outskirts of the Yukon. Raised as a brutal Macho-Junky in The Pit, Tlilet must overcome obstacle after obstacle as he learns to control his Spark-his special mutant power that he has kept a secret his entire life.”
For those who haven’t read the first book, it was a coming of age story of a young person who learned he was magically able to control machinery. ‘Savage Savior’ is more of a background story and chronicle of the antagonist.
The journey of writing this book could be considered as riveting as the plotline. Being penned across the country, ‘Savage Savior’ has fit into the busy schedule of an author who is also a dentist. Siceloff is on pace for writing approximately a book a year, and says he enjoys the combination of having a full time job and writing. By having minimal time to write, Siceloff savors and values the times when he can, making it even more special.
Siceloff’s strong relationship with reading is nothing new. When asked his favorite book, he is unable to give a single answer. Siceloff cites numerous books which have influenced him over his lifetime including Anne Rice’s ‘The Vampire Chronicles’, Orson Scott Card’s ‘Ender’s Game’, multiple books by Stephen King, and Don Rosa’s ‘The Life And Times of Scrooge McDuck’.
As for his inspiration for this book, Siceloff cites an early passion with science fiction and fantasy, especially the Star Wars franchise. The escapism of these genres are important to Siceloff, leading him to write in this style for his own works. “I want my readers to take a break from their troubles and just have fun,” commented Siceloff.
To young, aspiring writers, the local author emphasizes the importance of writing, reading, and reading about writing. Stephen King’s ‘On Writing’ is a good start, according to him. With this, Siceloff acknowledges the importance of moving past rejections and learning from them.
To read Savage Savior, you may pre-order it now from Barnes and Noble or go to Top Hat Comics in Lexington, NC. The book will be available on other platforms as well in the future. On February 4th from 5pm-6pm, Siceloff will be at Top Hat Comics. He will host a meet and greet. Limited editions of the novel will be available for purchase.
