South Davidson Middle and South Davidson High School break ground on welding classroom
South Davidson Middle and High School hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the state-of-the-art welding classroom, which is expected to be complete for use by students in January 2025. The project has been in the planning phase for more than two years. The realization of the facility is the culmination of many partnerships.
A grant from The Golden LEAF Foundation in the amount of $455,000 is the primary funding source. The grant requires Davidson County Schools to match funds. Matching funds and additional funding have been provided from the following: Davidson County Schools $185,000; NUCOR Steel $250,000; Rut Manufacturing $50,000 (In-kind Plasma Cutter); and Bartimaeus by Design $5,000. Davidson-Davie Community College is partnering with the school to provide curriculum and instruction.
Personnel from several local fabrication and welding businesses attended the groundbreaking. So many have pledged various types of support to ensure the project is a success, as the end goal is to provide educational opportunities that lead directly to employability for students at South Davidson Middle and High School. South Davidson Middle and High School and all of Davidson County Schools are grateful for the interest, the investment, and the contributions to make the dream of the Wildcat Welding Shop a reality.
