Terry awarded NC's highest honor

Rosa Terry knew she was being awarded. She even had an inkling of what they award may be. However, surprise still found its way into her emotions on Wednesday morning at the Davidson County Courthouse.
With a framed proclamation in hand, Judge Jimmy Myers announced to Terry that she had been awarded the state of North Carolina’s highest honor, the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. Bestowed by Governor Roy Cooper, the award is reserved “for persons who have made significant contributions to the state and their communities through their exemplary service and exceptional accomplishments.” Recipients named to The Order become NC “Ambassadors.” Their names and award dates are recorded on a roster maintained by The Order of the Long Leaf Pine Society.
In attendance were members of Terry’s family, District Court Judges Rosalind Baker, Carlton Terry, Mary Covington, Carlos Janè, Jon Myers and retired District Court Chief Judge Wayne Michael. Baker, who has been friends with Terry for years stated. “It couldn’t have happened to a better person. She has given so much to the state of North Carolina and our community. Well deserved!”
After an emotional morning, Terry had this to say about receiving the award.
“I consider it an honor to be included in the group of people that have received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. It makes you feel liek your work has been appreciated and you made a difference. That is one of the most important things to me to make a difference in whatever I do - in the community, in the profession I chose to work in, in my church, in whatever I do. I just feel like this is a thank you for doing just that.”
