LEXINGTON, NC – The suspect who led officers on a 24-mile vehicle chase in a U-Haul box truck, Jonathan Dillon, was arrested in Charlotte at noon today. The U.S. Marshal’s Service arrested Dillon without incident with the assistance of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department and the Lexington Police Department. Lexington Police detectives took custody of him, served all outstanding warrants and took him before a magistrate in Lexington. Dillon is being held in the Davidson County Jail with no bond. Dillon is scheduled to appear at Lexington District Court on April 12, 2024.
Lexington Police Officers initially attempted a vehicle stop on a U-Haul box truck on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at 4:51 p.m. on South Main Street at Fowler Avenue after determining that the driver of the vehicle, Jonathan Dillon, age 31, had outstanding felony warrants. Dillon failed to stop for officers, engaging them a 24-mile pursuit.
During the pursuit, Dillon struck a North Carolina State Highway Patrol vehicle whose driver was assisting the Lexington Police Department. The chase ended when Dillon crashed into a tree at Riverview Road Extension near River Pointe. He then fled on foot. No officers or state troopers were injured as a result of the pursuit or the crash. The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office also assisted on Riverview Road Extension.
Dillon was wanted on the following charges: possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession with the intent to sell or deliver marijuana, felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, felony possession of marijuana, identity theft, felony speed to elude arrest, assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, hit and run, property damage, driving while license revoked, possession with intent to sell or distribute marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell or distribute synthetic marijuana, felony maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, resisting arrest and multiple other misdemeanor charges and motor vehicle infractions.
