The Pigarazzi are posted with their cameras in hand and adoring swine have gathered from all around to catch a glimpse of one of the most famous snouts to ever grace the mountain of sand that for the past few decades, has been artistically transformed into characters mimicking popular culture.

Each year, Sandscapes of California has accepted the job of sculpting tons of sand into what has become the official monument of every Lexington Barbecue Festival. “This year The Lexington Barbecue Festival is turning thirty-nine and everyone is going to love who we invited to help celebrate,“ said sculptors and company owners Greg and Brandi Glenn, who will be returning to their San Luis Obispo, California home after completing the work of art. Sandscapes travels the world designing and installing sand sculptures that bring smiles and wonder to the faces of many.

The massive work is presently being created on the lawn of 220 South Main Street in Lexington and will be revealed officially on Saturday morning when the kick off begins. The sculpture is one of the single most photographed areas of The Lexington Barbecue Festival and for good reason. This year will surely add to the record as the latest iconic character is revealed.

Attendance will also be at a record setting number as many are returning to the festival and large outside activities after the past years threat of Covid curtailed festivals across the nation.

The Lexington Barbecue Festival will be held on Saturday October 28, 2023 and will begin with exhibits opening at 8:30 AM which will be followed by an Opening Ceremony at 9:00 AM in Uptown Lexington.

Please share your fun photos taken at the sculpture by adding the hashtags #lexingtonbbqfestival and #davidsonlocal to your photos when you share them to social media.

To find out what images will emerge from the pile of sand, join us on Saturday morning for the exciting reveal.

We look forward to seeing you at The Lexington Barbecue Festival!
