The Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots returns to Davidson County
After a few years of not having a Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaign, due to Jerry Foye’s passing, it is returning to Davidson County. Small business owner, Mary Ann Klotz, saw the need to provide Christmas assistance to low income families during her time as an employee of Crisis Ministry of Davidson County. Klotz states that “the need in this county is overwhelming and since Jerry passed away a few years ago, no one stepped up to take over as the coordinator, I just couldn’t live with knowing these children may go without something to open on Christmas morning.”
One of our biggest needs currently is a warehouse or storefront to work out of from October through December. If you or someone you know could help out with that, please let us know. Our campaign officially starts October 1st with plans for a car, truck and bike show on November 6th hosted by 8 Lug Circus. Other events include a craft market by Hot Mess Mama Events, a fundraising dinner hosted by The Grange, breakfast with Santa, and a large toy drive during the Christmas Open House event on November 21st. Multiple events will be held by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Department such as Cops on Top (Chick-fil-a), no shave October to raise money for Toys for Tots and a stuff the patrol car toy drive. Davidson County Marine Recruiter, Ssgt. John Caldwell will also be assisting with the campaign. Klotz says to "Be sure to look for our entry in the Lexington Christmas Parade!"
Toy collection boxes will be distributed to many local businesses on or around October 15th, and will remain active until November 30th. Any business that is interested in being a drop off point, a sponsor and or a vendor for this celebrated nonprofit, may contact Mrs. Klotz at (336) 250-4558. The local campaign website is http://lexington-nc.toysfortots.org/, donations can also be made on the website and stay in Davidson County. Applications for assistance will start being taken on November 15th, and can be done online on the campaign website. Dates, times and locations for in-person applications will be announced.
This is the 74th year of the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots which is a 501c3 nonprofit. 97% of all donations go directly to the children, making Toys for Tots one of the highest rated nonprofits. LCO Klotz, and her team hope to make this the best Toys for Tots campaign that Davidson County has ever had, following in Jerry Foye’s footsteps. Please help them help the children of Davidson County because every child deserves a little Christmas.
