Martin Luther King 38th National Holiday Observance

The Martin Luther King Social Action Committee (MLK-SAC) announces the 2024 Martin Luther King National Holiday celebration to be held Friday, January 12 through Monday, January 15, 2024. The celebration will mark the 38th Anniversary of the King National Holiday and the 23rd Anniversary of the local event. The local theme is “Knowledge is Never Wisdom Until it is Shared.”
MLK African Arts Festival will be held at the Reich Auditorium located on the campus of Davidson-Davie Community College on Friday, January 12 at 7 p.m., featuring Collaborative Artists Placement Network, LLC from Winston-Salem, NC, founder Dr. Stephanie Hurt. Admission is free and asking all to come out and enjoy the event by wearing African attire!


The 23rd MLK Oratorical Contest will be held at the T. Austin Finch Auditorium, 406 Unity Street, Thomasville, NC with a reception at 5 p.m. followed by the oratorical contest at 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024. The Mistress of Ceremony is PBS NC Weekend Host, Deborah Holt Noel. MLK-SAC will give over $25,000 in scholarships and trophies in 2024. High School juniors and seniors from the Piedmont Triad region will participate in the oratorical contest that provides money for college. MLK-SAC will also honor MLK Beloved Community Awards Recipients, Richard Flippin, Jr., beloved long-time baseball, basketball and football coach at Thomasville Middle School and Thomasville High School and JacQuez Johnson, community activist, English teacher at Thomasville High School, chair Davidson County Democratic Party, youngest person elected to Thomasville City Council in 2023.

MLK Multicultural Arts Celebration will be held at Citadel of Faith Christian Fellowship, 108 Salem Street, Thomasville, NC on Sunday, January 14 at 4 p.m., featuring vocal sensations Tosha Dalton, High Point, NC and Dr. Stephanie Hurt, Winston-Salem, NC, with Nick Hayes and Cufflinx, Greensboro, NC. This event is free to the public and will be a worship experience you will not forget.

MLK 38th National Holiday Observance will begin on Monday, January 15 with the Beloved Community Health Fair from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Citadel of Faith Christian Fellowship sponsored by Citadel Health Ministries. Free screenings from health care professionals will be available. Theta Eta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta and MLK-SAC present the Beloved Community Fellowship Service in the Sanctuary at Citadel of Faith Christian Fellowship at 11 a.m. The featured speaker will be Ms. Latoya Pender. The celebration will conclude with the MLK National Holiday Observance at 7 p.m., hosted by First Missionary Baptist Church, 103 Church Street, Thomasville, NC. Asking all to come out and share in building the cherished beloved community.
