Thomasville issues proclamation for Davis-Gaither ahead of Super Bowl

Proclamation
WHEREAS, Akeem Davis-Gaither is the father of Camilla Joy Davis-Gaither; son of Joseph "Keith” Gaither and Sevonne Davis; grandson of Mrs. Ann Davis and Mrs. Louise Gaither; and brother to Evander Davis and Jonesha Davis; and
WHEREAS, Akeem Davis-Gaither started playing pee wee football as a young child with the Thomasville, North Carolina Parks and Rec league; he also played Little League and middle school football, and he played three years of football at the varsity level at Thomasville High School, where he graduated in 2015; and
WHEREAS, Akeem Davis-Gaither received a scholarship from Appalachian State University. While there, he became a 2-star athlete and won many defensive honors, including Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2019. In 2020, he was selected to play in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama; and
WHEREAS, Akeem Davis-Gaither was drafted three months later by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fourth round; and
WHEREAS, Akeem Davis-Gaither, is one of the top linebackers in the NFL with the NFC Champion Cincinnati Bengals who will be competing in Super Bowl LVI on February 13, 2022.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Raleigh York, Jr., Mayor of Thomasville, North Carolina, do hereby proclaim, February 13, 2022, as: AKEEM DAVIS-GAITHER DAY
and I urge the residents of our community, and communities across the country, to join me in cheering this Thomasville native on to success at the Super Bowl and throughout his entire career and life.
