Thomasville teen succumbs to injuries from crash
The Thomasville Police Traffic Safety Unit is currently investigating a tragic single-car accident that resulted in the death of a teenager and injured another individual on Friday afternoon on May 24, 2024, at approximately 3:15 p.m. at the 700 block of Hasty School Road in Thomasville.
A 2016 Toyota Sienna minivan was traveling east when it crossed the double yellow centerline, veered off the road to the left, and collided with two trees in the front yard of 705 Hasty School Road.
The driver, Alex Abelardo Valdez Lopez, 21, of Thomasville was transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. A passenger, Elizabeth Lopez Cortez, 45, of Thomasville, sustained minor injuries and was treated on the scene by EMS.
The second passenger, Fernanda Trigueros Lopez, 14, of Thomasville, tragically succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
The community extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Fernanda Lopez during this difficult time.
