TCS’ Wynn named Region Teacher of the Year
Tiffany Wynn, Thomasville City Schools’ 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year, is now also the 2023
Burroughs Wellcome Fund Piedmont-Triad Region Teacher of the Year and in the running for the state title of North Carolina Teacher of the Year. Wynn was surprised with this latest accolade under the guise of a Monday morning school assembly held to recognize the work she and her colleagues championed as “Operation Winter Break.” Under Wynn’s leadership, Thomasville City School employees and various community partners worked to ensure ALL 488 Thomasville Middle School students will receive items they
listed on a personal wishlist.
At the conclusion of the assembly Leah Carper, the 2022 North Carolina Teacher of the Year, Kelly Poquette, the 2021 Piedmont-Triad Region Teacher of the Year and Laura Papsun, the Piedmont-Triad Regional Education Facilitator took the stage to surprise Wynn with one additional recognition. She was officially named the 2023 Burroughs Wellcome Fund Piedmont-Triad Region Teacher of the Year. She will now compete with teachers from seven
other regions and the state’s charter schools for North Carolina Teacher of the Year, who will be
named in the spring.
During her 4 years of teaching Science at Thomasville Middle School, Ms. Wynn has been
identified by students as the teacher who sets the highest expectations for all her students to achieve. Under her guidance, students continue to meet and exceed the goals they set together.
“Ms. Wynn expects each student she teaches to do well and holds them accountable in the process. She inspires students to attain heights many believed they could never reach. Not all students have liked being challenged academically in the moment, but by the end of the year when they see the results they understand that the hard work has paid off” says Principal Kevin Leake. Ms. Wynn truly exemplifies our 4 pillars of Bulldog Nation: Excellence, Pride, Diversity,
Unity!
Thomasville is so proud of Ms. Wynn’s efforts in being an ambassador for great teachers in North Carolina. As our Regional NC Teacher of the Year, we wish her continued success on her journey into the state selection process.
