Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk - August 19, 2022

Dear Friends,

I hope everyone has had a wonderful week! I'm excited to share what has been going on in the legislature and in District 29.

The NC Local Government Commission approved new affordable housing funding for 2022. This is in an attempt to combat the current volatile economic state in our country.

The Davidson County Art's Council is a proud partner of the North Carolina Arts Council and all of its programs. The North Carolina Arts Council’s Grassroots Arts Program was founded to provide local and cultural art made in NC.

The Life Center of Davidson County is hosting a BBQ chicken plate fundraiser on August 25th. This fundraiser goes towards their efforts to help to elderly and disabled in our community. Community support for a good cause is always appreciated!

The NC Supreme Court Case, Moore vs. NAACP, was decided unconstitutional to propose an amendment to require voter ID in the state.

Davidson County has taken its first steps in building a new county jail by hiring an architecture firm to start developing building designs for the new facility. The project was finally approved by the county after years of discussion and will be moved to the current location of the Lexington Post Office.

The Federal District Court upheld North Carolina's long standing 20 week abortion ban, a precedent set in the 1970's. While this has been a law, it could not be enforced on the grounds of Roe vs. Wade. In the wake of the recent over turn of this landmark Supreme Court Case, North Carolina's law as been reinstated.

Mark your Calendar's for September 22nd as Senior's Day at the Fair! The Davidson County Senior Services, in partnership with the Lexington Kiwanis Club, is hosting the Annual Seniors’ Day at the County Agricultural Fair.

North Carolina has been placed to have one of the best "Rainy Day" funds in the nation. Our government is well prepared for unexpected expenses and economic downturn, which may put this funding to use.

It is National Aviation Day! Today we celebrate the marvel of technology that is human flight and we remember those who have contributed to the field.

If you have concerns, or questions, you can reply to this newsletter, email, or call my office at (919) 733-5743.

I also take time each day to personally call citizens in our district to listen to their concerns. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you!

Senator Steve Jarvis
NC District 29
