Google Ads and Davidson Local
You’ve probably noticed something different about Davidsonlocal.com.
If you've spent any time on our website in the past week, then you have no doubt noticed Google Ads. These aren’t pesky pop-ups but they are ads based on what Google thinks you might like.
For example: you're surfing the web for new tennis shoes, browsing a particular site, and later you move on to another site to find a banner ad for the site you visited hours earlier. This is called “remarketing.”
Remarketing is another tool to help us keep local news free. Google pays Davidson Local if readers click on one of the targeted ads. With so many local companies having small advertising budgets…it’s another way for us to pay the bills without having to charge a subscription fee.
We’ve had a few people complain about the content. If you see anything inappropriate or annoying, repetitive (more than one of the same ads on the same page), you can complain to Google. Many of our readers bypass the homepage of our website by clicking on stories through the Davidson Daily email. That format has not changed. All ads in the email are local companies so if you want to get to the good stuff faster…subscribe for free to Davidson Local.
