Library Card Sign-Up Month during September
The Davidson County Public Library System will observe National Library Card Sign-Up Month during September. As part of the celebration, patrons with lost or damaged cards can replace them for free. This year’s spokesperson is a beloved character from the Transformer’s franchise, Optimus Prime.
As back-to-school month, September functions as a great time to refresh your knowledge of all that a library card has to offer teachers and student learners of all ages. A library card unlocks a floodgate of materials which support the library’s mission statement of “Reading, Learning, Thinking, and Living.” Patrons of all ages can access both the physical collections of the library which includes books, audiobooks, magazines, DVDs, and Blu-Rays, along with invaluable digital resources such as e-audiobooks, e-books, and streaming music.
Cardholders also have access to experiences, including two free passes per household to the North Carolina Zoo. Last, but not least, is a wealth of free programming, events, and activities like story times, crafts, and book clubs. “As the school year begins, we encourage parents and guardians to make sure their student has access to library resources with a library card. Learning and the local public library go hand-in-hand” said Sheila Killebrew, Library Director.
Davidson County Public Library is comprised of five branches located in Lexington, Thomasville, North Davidson, Denton, and West Davidson in addition to the Davidson County Historical Museum and a system-wide bookmobile.
