Advocates for Charles McNeair began clemency campaign
Approximately 30 supporters of Charles McNeair gathered on the steps of the Davidson County Courthouse, in the rain, on Thursday afternoon to raise awareness about what they view as an ‘injustice in the justice system.’ McNeair, a Lexington native, was convicted in 1980 of second degree rape and sentenced to life in prison. At the time of conviction, he was 16. He’s been imprisoned for 43 years.
McNeair’s supporters are requesting clemency be granted immediately by Governor Roy Cooper and have began taking steps to ensure it happens.
Davidson Local will have a more detailed story surrounding McNeair’s case and the push for his release forthcoming.
