Salvation Army welcomes new leaders

Lexington, NC 06/23/21 - The Salvation Army of Davidson County is pleased to welcome new leaders, Majors Ray and Whitney Morton and their family. They assumed their position on June 27th and are looking forward to getting to know the community and continuing the ministry of The Salvation Army of Davidson County. The community is invited to join us in welcoming the Mortons to Davidson County on Sunday, June 27th at 11am for church service. Event to be held at the Salvation Army church, located at 314 W. 9 h Avenue, Lexington.

Salvation Army Officers are transferred to different locations, typically every 3-4 years. The Mortons are enthusiastic and dynamic leaders and come to Davidson County from Tupelo Mississippi, where for the last 2 years they were responsible for the programs and services of the Jim Ingram Red Shield Lodge.

Ray and Whitney count their second date as a Salvation Army worship service in Greensboro, NC while they attended UNCG together. They were Commissioned (ordained) as Salvation Army Officers in 2002 and have served in 8 previous appointments throughout the Southern Territory. Together the couple has a wonderful ministry and they are passionate about the mission of The Salvation Army. They have two children, Joshua and Isobel, who are both in college and beginning their own careers.

“It is exciting to meet the people of Davidson County and discover the opportunities for ministry here alongside our partner agencies,” said Major Ray. “We look forward to meeting the needs of this community and ‘Doing The Most Good’ alongside the staff, volunteers, and supporters of The Salvation Army.”

The couple is responsible for all church programs and social services at The Salvation Army including the Soup Kitchen, community and youth programs, and church. They are especially excited and eager to move forward

  • with the recently announced kitchen expansion project as part of the relocation of the homeless shelter. The

Mortons just completed this same project at their latest appointment before coming to Davidson County.

“Many people don’t realize that The Salvation Army is a church,” said Major Ray. “We invite everyone to join us for Worship each Sunday at 11:00 AM, at The Salvation Army, located at 314 W. 9 th Avenue, here in Lexington. We look forward to meeting you soon!”
