A complaint was filed by Ward 5 candidate Vanita Faye Craven Boger on May 31st. Board of Elections director Andrew Richards cited consideration for a local hearing as GS 163-182.10 titled: Consideration of protest by the county board of elections.

The hearing is an open forum to the public. The complaint alleges irregularities including,  “a defect in the manner by which votes were counted or results tabulated sufficient to cast doubt on the apparent results of the election” and “a violation of election law, irregularity or misconduct sufficient to cast doubt on the apparent results of the election.”

Angela Knotts McDuffie said she is “100 percent pleased with the election results, without any reservations." She said she has done her research and described her understanding that proof of any allegations rests with the complainant. "I ran a race that was professional and run with integrity."

Officials note that the BOE hearing is an opportunity to learn more. The complaint could be dismissed or further reviewed under state law.
