Breaking News: Davidson County Agricultural Fair canceled

It is with great regret that the Lexington Kiwanis Club must announce that the 2021 Davidson County Agricultural Fair will not be held this year due to the significant increase in COVID-19 cases throughout Davidson County during the first three weeks of August 2021.

This difficult decision was made by the Kiwanis Club Board of Directors, after consultation with the Davidson County Health Department, Reithoffer Shows, the Lexington Police Department, the Davidson County Sheriff’s Department, Fire and Rescue Squads, vendors, exhibitors, and agricultural contacts in the State of North Carolina and Davidson County.

After formal discussions with those listed above, and relying heavily on information provided by the Davidson County Health Department, the Kiwanis Club Board decided there was no way for the 2021 Davidson County Agricultural Fair to be held safely, without jeopardizing the lives of children, adults, and senior adults who would be working and attending the 2021 Fair.

The Lexington Kiwanis Club founded the Davidson County Agricultural Fair in 1946. Proceeds from the Fair are used to sponsor Kamp Kiwanis, a summer camping experience for more than 180 Davidson County boys and girls selected for attendance by the Department of Social Services. Fair proceeds help to maintain the camp’s wooden cabins, dining hall, nature trails, playground, and swimming pool.

The Lexington Kiwanis Club is already looking ahead to better times in 2022. The Kiwanis Club is hoping to have a bigger and better fair for city and county residents in the fall of 2022 as The Lexington Kiwanis Club will be celebrating the 76th anniversary of the Davidson County Agricultural Fair.

Davidson County Agricultural Fair Manager Vinnon Williams said, “We want to sincerely thank all of our loyal sponsors, participants, exhibitors, entertainers, law enforcement friends, and food booth vendors for their support over the years. We appreciate very much the understanding and support we have received from everyone during these challenging days.”
