Breaking News: Sinkhole on Cotton Grove Rd. in Lexington

A sinkhole has opened on Cotton Grove Rd. in Lexington. Davidson Local spoke with City of Lexington Stormwater Administrator, Zack Mackenzie to confirm. Mackenzie noted the hole is near the intersection of Cotton Grove Rd. and Parker St. Currently, one lane of Cotton Grove Rd. has been closed.

City officials are in place to direct the traffic. A total closure of the road isn’t anticipated, according to Mackenzie but it’s possible. The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has been contacted since Cotton Grove Rd. is a state maintained thoroughfare. Streets that begin and end or either begin or end outside of Lexington city limits are maintained by NC DOT.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to Davidson Local for more information.
