Breaking News: State BOE confirms incorrect filing period for Lexington municipal elections
Davidson Local has confirmed with the North Carolina State Board of Elections that the filing period conducted by the Davidson County Board of Elections (DC BOE) from July 26-August 13 for the Lexington Municipal Elections is incorrect. Ruth Honeycutt, director of the DC BOE, also confirmed. Citizens who have filed their candidacy will be refunded their filing fees. The filing period will be in December.
According to North Carolina Senate Bill 722, municipalities that have elections delayed until 2022 “must notify the appropriate county board of elections with jurisdiction over that municipality’s election contests whether the municipality will be able to provide electoral districts revised in accordance with State and federal law on or before November 17, 2021.” If the municipality is unable to provide this information by that day, they must provide it on or before December 17, 2021.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned to Davidson Local for more information as it becomes available.
