Police: Suspect in shooting and armed carjacking arrested without incident

Zackary Lee Plowman, 39, of Rural Hall is now in the custody of Lexington Police according to a department update. Plowman was wanted by both Lexington Police and Davidson County Sheriff’s Department as a suspect in the Saturday night shooting in Lexington that wounded three and in a Sunday morning armed carjacking in Welcome.
Lexington police have warrants for Plowman on charges of three counts of attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, and felony flee to elude. Investigators for the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office have obtained warrants charging Plowman with breaking and entering a place of worship, larceny after breaking and entering, robbery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, larceny of a motor vehicle, and misdemeanor larceny.
Lexington police say they found Plowman in his car early Sunday morning and tried to stop him, but Plowman fled. Officers gave chase and found the car abandoned north of Lexington a short time later. From the contents of the car, officers were able to determine Plowman’s identity.
Meanwhile, Captain M. Burns of the DCSO said deputies responded Sunday morning to a break-in and armed carjacking of the pastor and his wife at Community Fellowship Moravian Church on Welcome-Arcadia Road.
Captain M. Burns said Plowman broke into the church then took the church pastor and his wife and their car. The victims were subsequently released, unharmed, on City Lake Road and the vehicle was found a short distance away.
“The suspect left the vehicle on foot and we were in the area this morning conducting a search,” said Burns. Lexington police and DCSO deputies coordinated efforts in the search for Plowman Sunday.
The victims in Saturday night’s shooting have been identified as Miguel Mejia, 26, Rigo Mejia, 48, and Anthony Fritz, 25, All three are still being treated t Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital though their current condition is unknown.
