The North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) selected the City of Lexington to receive a $200,000 grant funded by the Building Reuse Program. The funds will support the reuse of a 65,000-square-foot building in Lexington.

Millwork Brands, Inc. will occupy the building, which has been vacant for six months. Millwork Brands is a retailer and wholesaler of doors, frames, and hardware for commercial construction. They are a premier supplier to the single-family, multifamily, student, and senior housing industry. They plan to create 27 jobs and invest $1,231,074 in this project.

"We are excited that the RIA has selected this project for funding,” Mayor Jason Hayes said. “On behalf of the Lexington City Council, I would like to thank the RIA and Millwork Brands, Inc. for investing in the future of Lexington and Davidson County."

The Building Reuse Program provides grants to local governments to renovate vacant buildings, renovate and/or expand buildings occupied by existing North Carolina companies, and renovate, expand or construct healthcare facilities that will lead to the creation of new jobs in Tier 1 and Tier 2 counties, as well as rural census tracts of Tier 3 counties.

"I will forever be proud of the investments we're making in our state's rural communities with these grants," said N.C. Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders. "They demonstrate North Carolina's unwavering dedication to uplifting rural areas, creating opportunity and building an equitable, sustainable economy."
